If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide or is in immediate danger please call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline any time day or night. If there is an immediate risk to life call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Our office hours and crisis support services are an important part of ongoing care but they are not a substitute for emergency services when a situation is life threatening.
It is also appropriate for families who are unsure how to support a loved one during a difficult moment. You do not need to wait until things feel completely out of hand. Reaching out earlier often makes stabilization faster and easier.
When you contact New Horizon Behavioral Care for crisis support a clinician will speak with you directly to understand what is happening and how urgent the situation feels. This conversation moves at your pace. The goal in the first few minutes is simply to help you feel safer and less alone before working through anything else.
From there your clinician will help you identify what triggered the current distress and what immediate steps can reduce risk and discomfort. This might include grounding techniques breathing strategies or simply a calm and steady presence while you regain a sense of control. Once the immediate intensity has eased your clinician will work with you to build a safety plan and identify the next steps for ongoing support.
If a crisis is connected to substance use our clinicians can help you get through the immediate moment safely and then connect you to appropriate next steps such as our Intensive Outpatient Program or Outpatient Program depending on what level of support makes sense for your situation.
